Maniitsoq Adventures
Incoming
Since the mid 90'ties a
number of adventurous skiers
have visited the Maniitsoq
area to try something
completely new and different.
In the beginning it was
mainly pro ski teams and
film companies, but since
2000 the company Maniitsoq
Tourist Office has organised
heliski trips to Maniitsoq
in co-operation with a
number of international heli
guides.
At Maniitsoq big glaciers
reach all the way to the
coast line and cuts through
the big mountains.
The locations are found on
some of the fairly large
islands and on the slopes of
the long and narrow fiords
north east of Maniitsoq town.
On many of these locations
you can ski from peak to
beach.
A big part of the skiing
experience at this location
is the majestic view of
glacier covered islands and
the breathtaking view of the
ocean (Davis Strait)
Mountains in this region
range from 600 m to 1,700 m,
but the highest mountains in
Evighedsfiord area more than
2,000 m. Vertical drops of
runs are from 600m up to
1,500m (4,500 feet) and
terrain is suitable for
intermediate to expert.
The season is from mid March
to Mid June with early
season powdersnow conditions
and corn snow conditions in
late season.
Almost 24 hour skiing from
late April due to midnight
sun.
Vegetation in Greenland is
scarce, so no tree skiing.
The area has stable coastal
snowpack with minimal risk
of avalanche.
